Programs
- The UT Actuarial Program is one of the largest and best in the country.
- The UTeach Program for preparing math and science teachers is nationally recognized and being used as a model for other states.
- The Emerging Scholars Program
has a strong track record of furthering the success of students from
backgrounds not traditionally strongly represented in mathematics. It has
been copied by other departments around the country.
- Mathematics is one of several departments participating in the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences
(ICES), an interdisciplinary research center for faculty
and graduate students in computational sciences and
engineering, mathematical modeling, applied mathematics,
software engineering, and computational visualization.
Faculty Highlights
- Six members of the Mathematics Faculty belong to the UT Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
- Two faculty members, Professors Karen Uhlenbeck and Professor Uri Treisman, have received MacArthur "genius" awards.
- Professor Uhlenbeck is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has received the National Medal of Science
- Professor Luis Cafarelli has received the Schlock Prize given by the Swedish Academy of Science
